This year Shelby County released a new version of its comprehensive plan, last updated in 2004, that will guide planning and development for the next 15-20 years.
Here are 5 things to know about the plan:
The county may increase its sales tax within the next few years to accommodate planned improvements
“Shelby County should explore the possibility of raising its sales tax rates, which are lower than some of its neighboring counties,” the plan says. “…The additional revenue from bringing these tax rates closer to the regional average could be used to fund the improvements recommended in this comprehensive plan.”
The county is releasing a trails master plan within the next five years
